Emo is short for emotional. Basically, people tag these bands like Fall Out Boy, Good Charlotte, and Panic At The Disco as "emotional boy rock". This is due to them whining about being done wrong by some girl, getting the screws put to them by the high school jocks, etc.

Anyhow, I'm not surprised that you dig this band Walt. I believe our music taste coincide due to the dark, power metal and goth sound that we like.

I'm guilty of blowing this band off though, I guess due to me making pre-judgements about them.

What disc do you recommend to the newcomer?

By the way, two other bands to check out if you like male lead goth is "The 69 Eyes" and "To/Die/For". Both are excellent bands in my opinion.

theres a 'best of' called and love said no

that would be a good place to start, every song on that cd is top class IMO
but it wont have any stuff from their two most recent albums

Yeah, can't go wrong with a best of. I really like the new album. Venus whatever, can't think of it right now....

I have heard both those bands, not enough to know which songs are which, but I have heard them and like what I heard.

Here's my recommendations for starting out with the following two bands:

To/Die/For - Wounds Wide Open
69 Eyes - Buy both Devils and Angels
