Mind Openess
Do you guys think you are more open minded about music today, I mean after you found metal, or were you more open minded back then before you found metal ?
As for me I think I am more open minded today. I've got over the 'Metal Is The Only Real Music' period and I can lend an ear to new things.
I didn't buy a cd in years though. I just listen to things that come accross the radio or when people are giving me a chance to listen to them. I am so satisfied with my 80's metal cds I don't feel the need to shop around anymore.
What about you ?

i tend to have different phases different weeks
one week could be extreme metal only,
next week could be pure classical composers
and I could go back to 70's rock the week after that

Re: Mind Openess
I have always been very opened-minded when it comes to listening and appreciating music. Hell, I was jamming to OMD earlier today.
But Metal is still my favorite!

Re: Mind Openess
I feel like I've lightenend up a little after figuring out that I am a metal head.
I like all kinds of music, but metal is what I prefer and where my passion lies. In other words, I'd sacrifice listening to any other type of music to listen to metal.
I'm always on the look out for new music or bands that I might have neglected once before.
It drives me nuts to hear people say they love metal music, but won't give the European scene a fair shake. I honestly don't understand how a person can claim to be a metal head and not get something out of that scene.
With that said, I'm convinced that metal fans are the truest to their music than most other genre fans. I'm not sure why, but we're a passionant and loyal bunch of crazies!

Yeah I've asked that question to myself too.PoetsandMadmen wrote: With that said, I'm convinced that metal fans are the truest to their music than most other genre fans. I'm not sure why, but we're a passionant and loyal bunch of crazies!![]()

I used to think the guitar hero phenomenon is one of the reason why metal people are more likely to try to play guitar and go on stage. That's not a very rigorous argument, but I rarely see audiences that can go as loud and as in the music than metal audiences. I think that's because metal is lyrical and has some some of 'victorious melodies' that push people to have passionate reactions. But that's just my opinion. Also the whole slaming headbanging thing makes you want to move yourself, and when you've been throwing yourself around for 2 hours show, you feel drained.

In response to FakeBlue's original post: I'm definitely more open-minded now than in my younger "metal and rock only" days.
I agree. I also like a lot of types of music (I can't say "all types" because I have a hard time getting into some styles of dance and rap), but for me, metal and guitar-based rock are what I listen to the most. And maybe it's just me, but I appreciate metal and rock a little more after listening to other styles of music.PoetsandMadmen wrote:I feel like I've lightenend up a little after figuring out that I am a metal head.I like all kinds of music, but metal is what I prefer and where my passion lies.
