Deansolo wrote: Well, see that's the thing...I'm talking about a "reasonable" cost. If It has to be exactly like the OD-1 version he used....well you can get them on eBay for $100 +. Even for me ( I designed and and have MFG the Cat's Eye box), getting a "boss Style" box made would make the pedal basically in the 200 buck range. Hardly affordable.
I certainly agree with this. That was one of my points, although maybe hidden into my jargon. No sense to totally clone the original, get the old one instead if you want that. This one would be something special on its own right.
Deansolo wrote: By hardwired bypass I meant "non transistor switching". Basically true bypass as we all know it with a DPDT switch and simple LED driver.
Again, this is nice and the way I would prefer it also. I just have bad feelings about the actual term "hardwired", used by big manufacturers to try and fool people to think theirs have a TB when they do not. My pet peeves, gets me everytime I see the word, sorry. I know you meant true bypass, sok.
Deansolo wrote: I actually prefer the Raytheon version. They're easier to get and , to my ears anyway, sound identical to the fabled JRC4558D. Got a slew of those too. I offer the JRC as an option in our distortion.
That's great. I have a stash of JRCs too, but have not done any too specific reference tests myself.
Deansolo wrote: Yep, I've spoken to Jake about his DIY pedals. he knows his shit. He never mentioned any mods or clones of an OD-1. I talked with him via email this morning. He's hip to checking out a prototype of another effect I have, to see what "personal stank" I can put on it. In fact a couple of years ago he was a bit skeptical of the Mista Fuzz I sent him (hadn't seen a fuzzface like that before)...After trying it with a Dano practice amp at home, he modded it (before he tried it with his Marshalls) to be more in line with his old fuzzfaces. He changed it back before they started recording Retraced!

I'm definitely gonna ask him about his OD-1's. :)
All this sounds really good. Mind sharing any info you might find? Not asking any secret giveaways, but you know you can go as technical with me you'd ever want to. ;)

Thanks, Dean.

OK, after seeing where this is going my interest is definitely piqued.

Sorry I didn't get a chance to see you at the LA Amp show. Did you get to check out Cameron's new amps? sweet!

I really didn't get the chance to do much browsing. Basically I had my salesman hat on that day! and didn't leave the room for much more than to grab a bite to eat.

Great show! We shared a room with Schreyer Audio. Earl Schreyer makes some fine amps BTW, you guys should check them out.

_will_ wrote:I would think it woudl be a nice plan to have it as un noisy as possible with the level cranked and the gain low - if thats possible. testing my memory, but is that not Jakes favoured setting?
I'm sure we can make it pretty quiet.....although there will always be a bit of noise with these types of gain pedals at the higher settings.

Yeah I think I heard he liked to st it with the volume high, the gain low and the tone almost all the way counter-clockwise.

Dean, we've been talking about this in PM for days, i think you know my response :) ;) if you can do it at a reasonable price for both you and us, then that would be great :) The Jake approval, for me, would simply suggest its the kind of pedal he'd of used back in the day ;)

Dean's pedals rock! I recently spent a few weeks with the Hop Hed & Mista' Fuzz pedals. Let me assure you these pedals are unique and high quality. If & when an Overdrive/Boost becomes available count me in!

Now there's another idea - overdrive w/built in boost! Count me in either way. I already have a vintage OD-1, but I could always use another.
