My "Inspired by Jake E. Lee" guitar
Hi, Everyone.
Here is my "Inspired by Jake E. Lee" guitar. I won't call it a replica, because it has plenty of differences from a genuine Jake model.
It's a Jackson P7 from the mid 1990s. It has the Dimarzio SDS1s, slanted in the manner of Jake, but unlike Jake, it has a Bill Lawrence xl500 as the bridge pickup.
It also has a Wilkinson tremolo, which I use once in a while.
Comments appreciated!

I like the sound of the single coils. I look at the polepieces, and they line up really well under each string, which makes the string sound better.MetalHead wrote:how does the slanted singlecoils work for you

Tonewise, the single coils remind me of Gibson p90s, which I love - big, but not shrill. I've never been too happy with the humming of these pickups, but I've learned to live with it.
I don't use the "in-between" settings when I use my pickups, so the only way I can answer the last part of your question is this: on their own, the single coils are loud. On its own, the humbucker is louder.
Yeah, I'm pretty obsessive about things like this

In one word - Loud!Ninevah123 wrote:Thats a honey of a guitar, what does that Bill Lawernce sound like???
Not as loud as EMG pickups, or the Dimarzio Tone Zone or Super Distortion, and certainly not as heavy in the bass/midrange as those pickups. In this guitar, it actually sounds like the bass/midrange are equal, with a boost in the treble end..
(This pickup was previously in a basswood body guitar, and prior to that a mahogany body guitar. Both occasions, it sounded "mushy" to me.)
When I play this guitar on the clean channel of my amp, it's on the brink of breaking up. On my rhythm channel, it's really chunky. I don't even click over to the solo channel on my amp when I play this guitar, I just kick in an overdrive pedal on the rhythm channel for solos.
Yes, I'm pretty obsessive about these things.

Very unusual coloring burnt red orange looking: but none the less it looks quite "sturdy" and "solid" your Jake E. Lee model Jackson designed Guitar. Thanks for sharing.

Awesome looking guitar man....great choice of the bill lawrence, I have them in 3 of my gtrs and I love em......you get a good consistant tone from them (like with active but with a passive sound that reacts to your playing touch). Have you put the Q-filter with it? I have found it adds a little bit of crunch tone , if you use a clean tone with a phaser you get a haunty semi distorted tone taht is very very cool

To Shadow and Skezza: Thanks! I've been told that this guitar has a very thin maple veneer on the front.
To Sytharnia: Can you tell me more about a "q-filter"? I've never heard of this device/gadget.

Re: My "Inspired by Jake E. Lee" guitar
the Q-filter is a bit like a coil splitter that changes the pick up from humbucker to single coil (reduces the impedence) by attaching it to the tone control.....but what I have found is by adding one your humbucker sound seems to change slightly and it gives a little boost to the gain and just fattens the sound of the pick up slightly. this is what it looks like

and I think you can buy it from his site here
