Thats tough
Vivian Campbell
Doug Aldrich
Rowan robinson
In that order.
I think Jake should play for him that would be a smokin CD with Randy coven on bass and Carmine Apice on drums now thers a line upPs you forgot Robinson from your pole and seeings that he did three records with Dio thats un cool.

Jake and Dio did play together before the Holy Diver album came out. Dio says that nothing was ever written or recorded. This information is found on Dio's new dvd "We Rock". I thought it great that he was asked about Jake.
Re: Your Favorite Dio guitarist
Rowan Robertson! Best player ever in Dio. goldy is probably the most soulful of them.

Well put! Viv is my favorite due to his riffs on Holy Diver, especially Straight Through The Heart!mrmetal wrote:Doug Aldrich is the best shredder and my personal favorite.
Vivian did the classics.
Tracy was the most innovative.
Craig is the rock. He still writes some great riffs.
Craig is a rock! One heavy ass riff after the other...good stuff!

I bought the We Rock DVD the other day, but I've not watched the interview portion yet. That's very cool mentioning Jake indeed!dmhcman wrote:Jake and Dio did play together before the Holy Diver album came out. Dio says that nothing was ever written or recorded. I've never been able to see Dio live before, so I wanted to start with some old footage and move into newer stuff.

It is too bad that nothing came of that I think a Jake and RJD project would be a great shot in the arm right now ,

Vivian Campbell, .....Saw 'em in 83....Yeah 1983! If I remember correctly Dio opened for Aerosmith (at that time a shell of their former selves!) and F**king ROCKED!! Fire-breathing dragon on stage and everything!! AWESOME!

I thought Robinson only did Lock Up The Wolves with Ronnie. What other two albums did he make with him?stratattack wrote:Thats tough

Re: Your Favorite Dio guitarist
Yes you're right he did only LUTW '91 ,but he is a awesome riffman .Heavy heavy guitarist .
Re: Your Favorite Dio guitarist
Actually that came out in early 1990. They were planning a follow up and started writing for it which was planned to be released in 1991 but Ronnie joined Sabbath before that could happen. Robertson was a great solist and an excellent rythym player. Check out the solo in the song "Walk On Water"!Demon_A_Go-Go wrote:Yes you're right he did only LUTW '91 ,but he is a awesome riffman .Heavy heavy guitarist .

Re: Your Favorite Dio guitarist
My favorite would have to be Craig Goldy. He's a great guitar player. He played some really great material on Magica. But I would have to pick Vivian as a close second. I've seen Dio live twice. Both times with Tracy G. One of those shows was in Austin, TX. Jeff Pilson played bass. Great shows. I think all of Dio's guitarists are pretty good. I seen Doug Aldrich playing alongside Reb Beach with Whitesnake this past summer.
Re: Your Favorite Dio guitarist
All of DIO's Dragon Knights Guitarists Vivian Campbell, Craig Goldy, Tracy G, and Doug Alrich (his name gets me awfully confessed at times w/Tommy Aldridge in whom is a Master Drummer not a Guitarist) are "all" pretty spectacular in their own rights. And I like them all especially Vivian & Craig (took along time getting use to Craig Goldy when Vivian left..-I was so angry w/Vivian for leaving but I'm pleased his quite happy & successful with DEF LEPPARD!) I'd picked Craig Goldy cause he too sold my Heart long ago & DIO's Magica really amazes me. Peace.

...-Ooop's that's "stold" my Heart not sold! smile.
